My installations are concerned with spatial qualities built through actions such as ‘to cut’, ‘to fall’, drawn gestures and inscriptions in a body-space. Performance utilises choreographic installations and objects as drivers of choreography within live scores. I’m heavily influenced by diagrammatic concepts in dance, writing and drawing in dynamic formations. I tend to refer to my works as blubilds as they literally build the work as process like an active blueprint.

Edgelands Echo was a commission for Light Night events with Lizzie Coombes and The Path Between, as part of Leeds City of Culture 2023. This Edgelands site became part of a local research group on moths. This piece was created in response to Edgelands culture growing around Meanwood Road as a ‘drawing with light’ project.

My practice interests circulate around the body, body-mapping, body-space, choreographic processes in the broadest terms of movement, action and inscriptions. Heavily influenced by the Judson era and notions of formlessness, I take movement, spatial experiences and sites to alter and challenge our perceptions of visual space, the actions and movement patterns of place…

My experience spans a number of years in contemporary dance and choreographic installations which developed into fine art practices of drawing and performance. I’ve sculpted with textiles, folder paper works to explore the space of mind/body and spatiality. It is the choreographic encounter that is the lynch pin to my work in bringing these elements into an interactive process with each other like a palette.

I have had the lovely opportunity of directing a number of my art projects with arts council funding and went on to Lecture in Higher Education across theory and practice in art and design in practice. I currently work at Leeds Beckett University in The School of Arts.
